Do we really need another wall?

Walls in people's heads are sometimes more durable than walls made of concrete blocks.”  Willy Brandt

It has been quite a long break since my last post here, but recently I was extremely busy. Luckily I have found a moment, just to show you few pictures from my instant-weekend trip to Berlin. Hope you will enjoy it :)

First of all, just to show you that travelling doesn't have to be expensive, I payed 4 zlotys for bus ticket to Berlin (including return). Yes, it's actually less than 1 euro. Was the journey long? Yes it was indeed. Was it comfortable - not that much. But hey, as they say: no pain no gain ;). Soon I am gonna make a separate post about cheap travelling so stay tuned.

Berlin, 2016

Alexanderplatz Berlin, 2016

I wanted to visit Berlin for a long time. Mainly for the historical reasons: in XXth century this city was the witness of many disturbing moments, that has changes the not only the history of this place but the history of the mankind I think. The terrible experiences of totalitarianism, war and division made this city one of the strangest places I have visited so far.

The sad and difficult history can be seen and can be sensed all over the city. Nowadays it feels scary and creepy, especially when people actually want to solve problems by building another wall. It's like history taught us nothing. How many sensless and cruel deaths (like the one of Peter Fechter who died shot when he tried to escape to West Berlin) we need to understand that walls are not the solution. They never were and never will be.

However the past of Berlin may be sad the present is much brighter. Nowadays Berlin (especially the eastern part) is a place of freedom, colours, good vibes and independent art. Also the city is a terrific destination for foodies - both vegans and omnivorous will be satisfied ;)
