Torino - chiuso per ferie

Image
Going to Italy in August is a risky game - many shops, restaurants, museums and caffees are closed due to the holiday season. Yes, Italians instead of making money on tourists that choose to spend high season in their country, prefer to take a break, spend some time with family and friends. Crazy, isn't it?  Seriously, I do admire the idea of choosing relax over making money.  Dolce vita is the antithesis of greediness and this is one of the reasons why Italy holds a special place in my heart. This year, at the instigation of my mum, we have spend few days of August in Italy. In Liguria, we got the sun, the sea and amazing views but I decided to spice up this lazy trip by going a little up north to Piedmont's capital: Turin.   Torino, 2015 Torino the city of FIAT, Lavazza, Juventus and Ferrero welcomed us with rain, cold, fog, closed restaurants and shops. Such fun! Honestly, it's quite difficult to enjoy any city when you are shivering from co

How not to get crushed by autumn depression

Image
This article is brought to you thanks to the snowy Monday morning (October 12 th ) that inspired me to think about the few upcoming months.  http://quotesgram.com So here I am, in the middle of October, realizing that the cold wind and snow will be with me for the next six months, if not more. I am a little bit low due to the recent life circumstances and yet the winter cold came surprisingly early this year (it actually looks like now we may have just two seasons hot & freaking cold). The lack of sun and inevitable moment when my leave days finished so I cannot travel , made me realize that depression season is officially open. Of course I am not writing here to moan and whine because I’m not thak kind of person...anymore ;) So, I decided to not give up this time to this lousy bastard called despair.  Warning: if you suffer from the real depression which is actually a very serious disease go to the doctor. You may keep reading or even implement some of my a

Spain, food and all those memories...

I don't always take a picture of my plate but when I do it is always something worth remembering.  I'm not gonna lie, Italian food is my favourite but this year I had a chance to finally visit Spain and discover some new flavors. Here's what I found out.   Sevilla, 2015 1. Tapas - the idea of tapas is just amazing. It gives you a chance to try different things but the portions are so small that it's almost a guilty free pleasure. Among tapas you can find those very light, that can stimulate your appetite or pithy one that can actually satisfy the hunger. Eating tapas does not require booking a table, you can simply move from one place to another and try new stuff.  How cool is that?  2. Coperto - or should I write: the lack of coperto. There is not such things in Spain. You pay for what you eat and leave the tip, while in Italy... well that is the whole another story. 3. Churros - that's my biggest culinary dis

You just shouldn't go to Barcelona!

Image
I am not gonna tell you how beautiful Barcelona is. I believe you know it well. I am not gonna tell you how nice and fun loving Spaniards are because this I believe you have also noticed.  What I would like to tell you is that Barcelona is not so happy with your visit. Nope, this is not a joke. Recently I came across few articles about the bad effect a mass tourism has on the Catalan capital and how much  locals are pissed off of  it (link to this articles you can find here: Bloomberg  and here:  Economist ).  I am not a person that easily believes in written words but this is what I found out when I was in Barcelona for a weekend: Barcelona, 2015 You might think it pissed me off, because I am a tourist. I came to Barcelona for a lazy weekend to see some nice things, eat some good food and buy some crappy souvenirs. They should be happy to get my money that I have spent on food, hostel, public transportation and so on. But honestly this message didn’t even upset
